Karl began playing the guitar and writing music at the age of 25. His first two and a half decades were spent playing basketball and video games, and wondering just what the hell it is that's going on. Since picking up the guitar (and later the banjo), he's been using them to try to give expression to that wonder.

His style is rooted in the fertile tradition of folk music, with familiar-feeling melodies and the traditional finger-pickin' and claw-hammerin' technique of old time folk singers. 

His latest project is his first attempt at complete creative control- writing, performing, recording and mixing. The collection of songs, entitled "Love me love my gestalt," strays from the parameters of a conventional album. Instead of being deliberate and finished, it's an ever-expanding collection that he intends to add to until he can't. Just as the songs arise in accordance with their own nature, they're recorded and integrated next to the others to eventually produce a lifetime of work.
