A special treat for our wine friends: Oltretorrente from Piedmont, Italy!

Oltretorrente is a testament to dedication and craftsmanship in winemaking. Nestled in the picturesque Paderna of the Piedmont region, this small winery operates on a modest scale, producing just 30,000 bottles a year from fewer than 8 hectares. Founded in 2010 by agronomists Chiara Penati and Michele Conoscente, Oltretorrente translates to “Beyond the Stream,” embodying the couple's commitment to reviving old, neglected vineyards that once thrived under local families.

Their journey began with a passion for sustainability and a deep respect for the land. With years invested in rehabilitating the vineyards, they have successfully reintroduced native varietals, improved trellising systems, and revitalized the soil. This ongoing labor reflects their holistic approach to viticulture and the integrity of their wines.

In the cellar, Oltretorrente distinguishes itself with a philosophy of minimal intervention. Fermentation primarily relies on native yeasts, and each vineyard parcel is treated uniquely, adapting practices to the specific conditions of the grapes each year. They utilize a blend of concrete, neutral oak, and stainless steel for both fermentation and aging, favoring whole cluster pressing and extended lees aging. This meticulous process enhances the wines' complexity and stability.

The result is a portfolio of wines that are both honest and natural, showcasing remarkable complexity while remaining approachable. Oltretorrente invites wine lovers to experience the essence of Piedmont through their carefully crafted bottles, each reflecting the rich story of their origins.

We are the ONLY folks in VERMONT working with Oltretorrente.
